What can be modded?

The project describes custom maps, loading screens and cosmetics. Its current docs also cover music playlists and park mods, while v2.0.7 adds Board Break deck packs. Although the feature overview mentions scripts, custom Lua files in scripts/Custom are explicitly disabled in the checked version and are not read or run.

Start with the linked community

The launcher’s MODS page browses the ReSkate Thunderstore community linked by the project. Review each package’s author, documentation, dependencies and supported build before installing. A listing is not a security guarantee. We have not independently tested individual mods, so this guide does not present a “best mods” list.

  • Use the project-linked ReSkate community, not a package directory for another skate game.
  • Check the package description, supported build, changelog and required dependencies.
  • For a third-party mod ZIP, confirm what it contains and who maintains it before importing it.
  • Keep release notes and package instructions alongside the guide; no directory listing is a promise that a package is safe or compatible.

Install and find your files

Use the launcher’s MODS page, or drag a mod ZIP or folder onto the launcher window. Manual mod folders belong in Mods\<mod name>\ beside Skate.exe in the ReSkate-managed game copy. Mods\mods.json controls ordering. This is not a path inside your separate Steam install.

  1. Run the ReSkate launcher and open MODS.
  2. Browse the linked community or drag the mod ZIP/folder onto the launcher.
  3. Read dependency and compatibility information before enabling it.
  4. Start the game; use Insert → MODS for supported in-game changes.
  5. If the mod is skipped, read the named warning and runtime log instead of adding more files at random.
Manual folder reference
C:\Games\ReSkate\Mods\<mod name>\
C:\Games\ReSkate\Mods\mods.json

The order file belongs to ReSkate’s mod management. Use the launcher’s ordering/profile controls described in your version’s docs instead of assuming a hand-edited JSON format. A package’s own layout may differ; this directory reference is not a promise that every archive extracts identically.

Save a profile before experimenting

The current main-branch README describes PROFILES on the launcher’s MODS page. A profile saves enabled mods and their order under a name; loading one changes the selection and downloads missing packages. Sharing uses compatible codes or .r2z files. Check the note below if these controls are missing from the release you installed.

Apply changes and check compatibility

Use Insert → MODS to toggle mods and apply changes in game. Most changes do not need a restart, but do not assume all mods hot-reload. The loader skips outdated or unmergeable mods with a message naming them. Read that message and the mod’s own requirements before trying again.

A multiplayer server may enforce its own scoring and physics rules. The server docs describe checks for mods that change scoring, throwdowns or core handling. With the default warning policy, affected players can be excluded from throwdowns and co-op challenges. A documented remedy is restarting skate. without the flagged mod; the server administrator controls whether it is accepted.

RESKATE / ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Where is the ReSkate Mods folder?

It is Mods beside the Skate.exe used by ReSkate, with each package in Mods\<mod name>\. The order file is Mods\mods.json. In the separate-folder setup, use the ReSkate-managed copy rather than your normal Steam installation.

Can I install ReSkate mods from Thunderstore?

The launcher’s MODS page browses the ReSkate Thunderstore community. The docs also describe dragging a ZIP or folder onto the launcher. Check the package’s build and dependencies before enabling it.

Why is a ReSkate mod being skipped?

The loader skips packages for incompatible game builds or content that cannot merge cleanly, and names them in a message. Check that warning and the runtime log. Custom Lua in scripts/Custom is disabled in the checked docs.

Do all mod changes work without restarting?

The project says most changes apply in game without a restart, not every change. A multiplayer scoring/physics restriction can require restarting without the flagged mod. Follow the package and server instructions.
