A custom map and a park layout are different
A custom map supplies a level and its game data. The server documentation reads reskate-levels.json and manifest.json to identify map mods. A park mod instead describes objects placed on an existing map using the Park Editor. Knowing which package you have explains why one session asks every player to install a level while another can distribute placed objects without a client-side park mod.
| Content | Where it is used |
|---|---|
| Custom map / level | Install the matching map on the client; place the server’s map folder under its own Mods directory for hosting. |
| Park Editor layout mod | The documented server flow spawns Build Kit objects on the map the park was built for. Players do not need that park mod installed. |
| Cosmetic, music or other mod | A package being installed does not make it a selectable level. Read the package’s own description and dependencies. |
Install a map into the active ReSkate game copy
Use the project-linked Thunderstore community as the discovery starting point. Its listing establishes a package’s identity, not independent compatibility or security testing. The loader checks mods against the game build and leaves out outdated or unmergeable packages with a message naming them. Read that message before assuming that the map selection itself is broken.
- Check the author’s instructions, dependency list and supported game build before choosing a package. This guide does not publish a “best maps” ranking without testing.
- Open MODS in the launcher and install from Thunderstore, or import the author’s ZIP/folder using the documented launcher controls.
- Keep the resulting map folder under Mods beside the active Skate.exe. Do not confuse the Steam game installation with ReSkate’s independent game copy.
- Launch and use the ReSkate menu’s MODS controls to enable and apply changes. Check for a skipped-mod message if the content does not appear.
Why a server offers a map download—or does not
The 2.1.2 server documentation offers missing Thunderstore maps after confirmation. Keep the server folder’s Owner-Name or Owner-Name-Version identity and manifest so it can identify the package. An arbitrary renamed folder can require players to install the map themselves. Check both the client’s map package and ReSkate version.
Read the source ↗Download finished, but the session stopped waiting
The 2.1.2 README distinguishes confirmation, the session join wait and the download itself. Confirmation expires after two minutes; a session waits up to 30 minutes for checking, downloading, installation, applying and joining. A large download already started can continue beyond that wait, up to four hours. Rejoin when it has finished.
Read the source ↗Texture warnings, black screens and missing geometry
Heavy mod collections can cause blurry textures, missing items, black screens or long loads. Try a smaller profile and record the exact map and error. Version 2.1.1 adds GPU diagnostics after a non-responsive graphics card; it does not confirm a fix for every map crash. The historical Proton map-first workaround has a narrower scope.
- Reduce an unusually large mod profile and retry the same map. Keep the log and exact packages if the issue remains with a modest collection.
- If a black screen follows switching from one custom map to a server on another, the README’s temporary workaround is to load the server’s map first.
- For a freeze or missing geometry under Proton, record the exact map package/version, ReSkate version, Proton version and whether a base-game map loads. A different symptom needs its own evidence.
Original community maps to investigate
PLYWORKS Indoor Skatepark by Rezlin describes an original indoor warehouse with bowls, ramps and street features. The Yard by Lust Creations describes an original night-time park with stairs, rails and linked lines. Use their author package pages to inspect versions and installation notes. They are discovery candidates, not a tested quality or performance ranking.

ReSkateLab’s rooftop_megapark v1.0.0, titled Rooftop City – Super Mega Ultra Park, credits the map and layout to unratedshred. The author describes a large nighttime rooftop city with a plaza, bowls, street lines, towers, kickers, loops, vert and tunnels, built with Blender and ReSkate Studio. Its Discord post is dated October 18 UTC / October 19 in China. The author marks it WIP. This is an author-sourced discovery entry, not a playtest or performance recommendation; check the package’s current version and credits.
Read the source ↗October 20 discoveries: Linlathen and Hometown Dream
Bmaps published Linlathen Skatepark v1.0.0 (35 MB), described as a skatepark in Dundee. Its package page provides little further detail, so routes and 2.1.1 compatibility are unverified. sorandrey’s Hometown Dream v1.0.0 (349 MB) describes a street plaza with stairs, ledges, rails, kickers, a spine, quarterpipe, bowl and surrounding streets. Both appeared on October 19 UTC / October 20 in China. These are author-sourced discoveries, not playtested recommendations or an originality assessment.
October 21: Castle Bam and two renamed map packages
Castle Bam is now 1.0.1, updated October 25 UTC; the original 1.0.0 discovery is superseded. VANS Skatepark By Puzzledpeach and Stoner Skate Plaza By MaTSixx are package-name migrations: their authors say the game content matches the older packages. Enable only one copy; old subscriptions do not automatically migrate. These are attributed descriptions, not compatibility tests.

The Discord map-assets forum shares and_sorokin’s Blender geometry-node rail setup and screwball’s mini ramps and picnic bench. The ramp and bench posts permit use, but redistribution questions have no explicit creator answer in the inspected replies. Link to the originals and confirm permission before mirroring or repackaging files. The park-assets post with a deleted starter is excluded.

JackPeters’ PaddoSkatepark 1.0.0 recreates the Brisbane park around 2021, before the graffiti. The creator also includes a skateable abandoned Ithaca Pool, a DIY tennis court and a fictional connecting drain. The package was published October 22; its Reddit release post followed October 23. Night lighting and the recreation details are author descriptions, not an in-game test by this site.

YACO published NODO Skatepark 1.0.0 on October 24 UTC. It recreates an indoor park in Buenos Aires with quarter pipes, two long half pipes, banks, hubbas, ledges, manual pads, rails and stairs. The package is about 360 MB. Install through the launcher, or extract its contents directly into a dedicated Mods folder and select NODO SKATEPARK. The author warns a future game-build change may require rebuilding the map. This is a creator description, not a playtest.
Read the source ↗Skate 3 Improved 1.1.5: ten Deathraces
The creator’s October 25 UTC changelog adds Skate 3’s ten Deathraces at their original University, Downtown and Industrial locations. Ride to a start marker and hold Y or Triangle to choose the race, skater count and time limit. The author describes solo play or up to 30 other skaters, checkpoint gates and a results screen with personal bests. D-pad up returns to the last checkpoint; D-pad down leaves the race. Boosts, noclip and custom physics are disabled during races. Race invitations can be managed under PLUGINS > S3 Deathraces. These features have not been play-tested here.

Wilde’s new ProvoPlaza recreates the plaza in Provo, Utah, with help from Katsu. The author calls it a playable work in progress and plans to add nearby areas such as the parking lot and tennis courts; those plans are not current features. The creator page and cached directory showed different package versions during this check, so confirm the version on the original page before installing. Use the launcher and keep the map in its own mod folder.

Frequently asked questions
Can a server automatically download every custom map?
No. The documented offer depends on identifying a Thunderstore package from its preserved folder name and manifest. A map with an arbitrary folder name requires players to install it themselves.
Read the source ↗Do players need the host’s Park Editor mod installed?
For the documented dedicated-server park-mod flow, players do not need the park mod: the server distributes placed Build Kit objects. A full custom map is different and requires matching level content.
Read the source ↗Does this guide verify any “best ReSkate maps”?
No. It verifies the installation and hosting documentation, not individual map quality or compatibility. No map package has been played or benchmarked for this guide.
